What am I talking about? Let me explain: The word hydrophobic comes from the Greek roots hydro- (meaning water) and -phobia (meaning fearing or hating). The word hydrophobic describes the fact that certain substances don't combine with water. Let's take a closer look at that definition: Have you ever heard the phrase 'oil and water don't mix'? Indeed, oil does not mix with water, and because of this, it is considered hydrophobic - it repels water or more exact: it does not attract water. Source: Wikipedia The opposite is hydrophilic: having a tendency to mix with, dissolve in, or be wetted by water. Philia means brotherly love. (Def. for -philia: Wikipedia) Left stone absorbs water completely - Right paver repels water after treatment with BEAD, the new protective coating. Most surfaces we work with while pressure washing are hydrophilic and absorb the water. The absorption of water means generally that the material stores moisture and eventually - as it goes here in Florida - is predisposed to the growth of algaes, mold and mildew. And so it goes, as we all know: Almost every year, we see a green or black-ish film forming on our outdoor-furniture, the pool cage, patio and literally everywhere. Wouldn't it be great to treat all those exposed areas with a product, that
What does this mean for you? Simple! You don’t have to pressure wash or seal it again for a very long time. Pretty neat, huh? After treatment with BEAD We also offer an amazing anti-slip treatment that´s one of the best on the market. But this is for another blogpost ;-) So, to sum it all up here is some scientific proof: The Director of physical sciences at the IBM Watson Research Center, Thomas Theis, is predicting, that “Nanotechnology is an upcoming economic, business, and social phenomenon. Nano-advocates argue it will revolutionize the way we live, work and communicate.” (Source: What is Nanotechnology?) Pressure washing is still the first step in protecting your property.
