![]() Do you know, where this custom of celebrating love and relationships comes from? We have searched around the Internet and found this explanation (amongst others), which we would like to believe is true: “This holiday originated from one of the oldest Roman festivals, the festival of Lupercus, the Roman god of fertility, which was celebrated by the Roman pagans. Little notes were exchanged between young men and women, similar than today. Young couples were chosen by a lottery and often-times these couples would stay together for life. However, the actual name was adopted from a Christian priest, St. Valentine. He went against Emperor Claudius’s II. decree of banning marriage and focussing on being a better soldier. St. Valentine secretly married couples. When the Emperor found out, he tried to convert the priest to Roman pagan gods and thus sparing him from death. Instead of giving in, Valentine tried to convert the mad Emperor and was executed for his folly. On the day of his execution, February fourteen, he wrote a note saying “Mark this day as a day for couples in-love!” So Valentines Day was born and remained to this day.” With this in mind, I am wishing you a pleasant day with lots of happy moments!
