In this modern world, the first impression means a lot, especially when it comes to your home. You want it to have that meticulous look that attracts everyone who passes by? There are hundreds of ways to improve your curb appeal and much can even be done on a small budget. Here I would like to introduce 10 affordable and mostly DIY-steps to add curb appeal to your home: Tip #1 Add Flowers Flowers located on the sidewalk or in elevated garden beds will enhance the overall appeal. Liaise with your local nursery for recommendations on which flowers can thrive in your area. It is a good idea to go for perennials to eliminate the cost of buying new flowers every year. Tip #2 Improve the Hardware Don’t ignore simple things such as the old door locks or -handle, light components or decorative house numbers. These small elements can play a crucial role in defining the overall appearance of the homestead. Therefore, if you are looking for just the final touch, consider the hardware elements. Tip #3 Seal the Dead Spots Robust trees that grace the highly spirited neighborhood can also be a disadvantage when it comes to overall aesthetics of the home. They tend to compete for available water with the small powerless plants in the compound. This leads to development of dead spots in the compound which are quite an eyesore. Restoring the grass can be an endless endeavor that only makes you scratching your head. The best thing you can do is to seal the blind spots by planting flowers around the affected area. You can also apply mulch at the base of the trees to cover up. Tip #4 Remodel the Side Yard Camouflage the side yard that is causing visual displeasure for you. You can add an attractive fencing to it. (Ok, I have to admit, this project might not be possible on a low budget, but you can aspire to do it, right?) Go along with impressive colors to the fence to make it more attractive. You can do the same thing with the backyard. Clear out any weed and introduce a clear and neat path that goes all the way to the backyard. You can blend the path with some nice flowers. Tip #5 Consider a Color Splash If you dance to a tune of your own and are already known for this in the neighborhood, a color splash is a perfect option to stand out and improve curb-appeal. Paint the front door red or blue. Plant a tulip border that will shine during spring. And trust me, everyone will give you good marks for a color-matching bench in your front yard!
Tip #6 Get New Garage Doors
A garage door has a commanding presence in a home, and it can determine whether your home is cool or not. Upgrade to a door with a pleasant color and unique design features. You can also get the window and door treatments in your garage that matches with the main house. Also, there is at least one company that sells photorealistic images that cover the whole garage door to create a perfect illusion. The installation takes 30 min. Seen from a German manufacturer in Cologne. Really cool. Check them out: style-your-garagen.com. They also ship international. (We are not affiliated with these guys, just love the products.) Tip #7 Trim the Bushes and Trees Even if your homestead is the most attractive in the neighborhood, it makes no difference if no one can see it. Tall trees and bushes can obscure the home and all of its appealing features. If not favorable presented, an otherwise vibrant home can look gloomy and lonely. You can rent or even buy a chain saw to trim the tree branches. (Ok, again, this is not for everyone and a professional tree-service might be the better option here). You can use a hedge trimmer though to clear up the bushes on a regular basis - or leave this to a pro as well ;-) Tip #8 Some Tweaks on the Mailbox Most mailboxes are made of grey weathered material mounted on a rotting post. If your mailbox matches this description, it is time to do something. Replace the box, and get a new post. Make sure you finish the job with an attractive paint. Tip #9 Don’t Forget Lights Along the Sidewalks Light along the sidewalk welcomes people into your home. It also increases safety at night. Soft lighting can highlight the home features in a really cool manner. Solar lights are highly recommended here in Florida because we obviously have lots of sunshine and thus solar lights are cost-effective as they don't require electricity. Tip #10 Put a Border along the Driveway Installing an edge along the driveway gives it an elegant and crispy look. Use bricks and stones together with asphalt for a long lasting border. Use of a combination of cool colors for a perfect finish. My Final Tip for Incredible Curb Appeal You might have guessed it - a fresh and new look can always be achieved by pressure washing the whole house. And don't forget window cleaning. It makes a world of a difference (look at the house at the top!). You can clean up the oil stained driveway and the grubby looking sidewalk. However, the pressure washing machine must be your friend if you want to create a perfect look. Watch some DIY How-to videos on pressure washing to familiarize yourself with the machine. But as always, we can take this job off your hand. You just want to enjoy the fresh, crisp look of your home after the cleaning?
