We had so much rain over the past weeks, some people really have a problem with their clogged gutters now.
The main purpose of a rain gutter is to protect a building's foundation by channeling water away from its base. Water collected by a rain gutter is fed, usually via a downspout or "downpipe", from the roof edge to the base of the building, where it is either discharged into the ground or collected.
Our torrential rainfalls in Tampa Bay give our gutters a real beating. Clogged gutters are quite common and lead to an overflow. But going up the ladder to fix this, isn't everyone's thing ;-)
How to properly clean gutters
One-storey homes can be cleaned from standing on a ladder, with a shovel and a bucket. When cleaning the gutters of a 2-storey home it takes more guts. One either has to work from the roof or use a much taller ladder. Remember, that roofs can be slippery when wet, especially here in Tampa Bay, when the shingles are covered with algae (a greenish/blackish film).
If you are not afraid of heights, you can do this yourself, providing that you take reasonable precautions.
If the downspout is clogged, too, it is most of the time less easy or simple to handle.
We suggest Pressure Washing as an affordable and quick solution to clean gutters!
Here is why: If the gutter is full of debris, dirt and leaves one needs a shovel and a bucket to clean out any loose "stuff". This is also the first step that we do. After that we use a special cleaning tool, that clears out the gutter with the proper pressure, leaving it absolutely clean.
